20 Things I Dislike About The Philippines Should Forever Be In Our Minds

http://channelfix.com/video/174/

I am very offended by the YouTube video that went viral on Tuesday. It was something that should not be mention on the internet and what Jimmy Sieczka did was very wrongful and he will get punish by the Filipinos that are living there.

It was great way to start my Spring Break from San Francisco State University was to talk about 20 Things I Dislike About The Philippines. It was a video that went viral on Tuesday that talk negative about the country and how crappy it is and the people living there. It piss off my professor Eric Pido (AAS 355) who happen to be Filipino like me. A lot of us students send him an e-mail telling him about the YouTube video. I have to say that the video was defensive toward the country.

Jimmy Sieczka explores the province of Cebu and mentioning 20 things he dislike about it. He goes on mention how crappy the area is by the restroom having no toilet seat, the potholes in the street being cover by trash cans, poor drivers, and the men dressing up like women. As an American living there I do not understand why he just doesn’t leave. The natives are going to be furious when they see the video. Jimmy is putting himself in dangerous by staying there.

As for a Filipino I can understand that we pee in unusual areas. I use to pee in the corner of my house and I still pee everywhere which I have to say it is a crime if I was drunk or not. It is our nature that we tend to not be use the toilet. The Philippines is an island in which Filipinos are living in a poor area.

I don’t know what Jimmy or Channelfix is trying to prove their point. It is a disrespectful to talk negative about a certain section (Cebu) and not explore the entire country. Yes it woke up the Filipinos living there and they should understand how mess up Cebu is. As a Filipino American living in America can find it offensive. What I do not get is if we know about the situation is there anything to fix it? I just wish Channelfix and Jimmy can understand that the Philippines is not a rich country like the United States. The country has been through wars and it is hard to reconstruct.

Back to my class on Wednesday. Eric had students come up in front of the class if they were a nerd, queer, artist, and women. He wants to prove a point that we all are not alone in this world. Plus he has been having students come during his office hour saying how much his class means to them. I was surprise on the students that came out. It was like being on a talk show. I would not expect the students to come out and speak their mind.

Eric apologize about his action in class and I felt his pain. It just wrong that an American that was not born there talk trash about a province and not explore the entire country. I bet Jimmy Sieczka is going to get killed by the Filipinos soon.
